EXHIBITION ON SCREEN: Degas-Passion for Perfection

ONE SHOWS ONLY! ENCORE SCREENINGS OF EXHIBITION ON SCREEN - DEGAS: PASSION FOR PERFECTION From the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge and the Denver Art Museum journeys from the streets of Paris to the heart of a superb exhibition at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, whose extensive collection of Degas’ works is the most representative in Britain. With exclusive access to view rare and diverse works, this film tells a fascinating story of Degas’ pursuit for perfection through both experimentation with new techniques and lessons learnt from studying the past masters. Sometimes frustrated by his own failings, Degas was consumed by obsessive principles and failing eyesight but his determination to capture everyday life was evident in every mark he made. Never fully satisfied, many of Degas’ drawings and sculptures were kept in private during his lifetime but, now through close examination, they can be seen as some of the most beautifully detailed and expressive works in the modern era. Using written accounts by friends and commentators, and the narration of letters written by Degas himself, this film reveals a more complex truth behind one of the most influential French artists of the late 19th century and serves as an exploration of the complex workings of Degas’ artistic mind. “Art is not a matter of what you see, but what you make other people see” Edgar Degas Written by David Bickerstaff and Phil Grabsky. *This is a special event & not valid for the redemption of movie magics, Movie & Meal deal or gift vouchers*

ONE SHOW ONLY! EXTENDED ENCORE with exclusive new material. Frida Kahlo is a phenomenon. She is arguably the world’s favourite female artist – beloved by young and old. Exhibition on Screen’s award-winning film – first released during covid to a restricted audience – is back by popular demand with an exciting new addition from the curators of the blockbuster transatlantic exhibition from Tate Modern and MFA Houston ‘Frida Kahlo: the Making of an Icon’. Back in the cinemas in May 2026, one month before the Tate exhibition opens, allowing audiences to watch both the film and see the show. Who was Frida Kahlo? Everyone knows her face but who was the woman behind the bright colours, the big brows and the floral crowns? Take a journey through the life of a true icon, discover her art, and uncover the true story of her rebellious, passionate and turbulent life. Making use of the latest technology to deliver previously unimaginable quality, we take an in-depth look at key works throughout her career. Using letters Kahlo wrote to guide us, this definitive film reveals her deepest emotions and unlocks the secrets and symbolism contained within her art. Exhibition on Screen’s trademark combination of interviews with world experts and a detailed exploration of her art, with new special bonus footage from the curators of the blockbuster 2026 exhibition, delivers a treasure trove of colour and emotion. This personal and intimate film offers privileged access to her works, her home, her studio and highlights the source of her feverish creativity, her resilience and her unmatched lust for life, beauty and revolution. Created in close collaboration with world experts and those who knew her. Additional new material from the curators of the groundbreaking new Tate Modern and MFA Houston exhibition. “A very watchable film about an ever-intriguing figure. Peppered with copious commentary from the usual top-notch academic and curatorial talent, [the film] strikes a fine balance between her life and work” The Guardian “A fascinating, at times darkly disturbing film, we see Kahlo’s passion and lust for life, people and politics come vividly across in this film, similar in some ways but quite different to other recent biopics about Kahlo, which highlights the source of her obsessive inspiration, productivity and endurance.” Sydney Arts Guide Directed by Ali Ray *This is a special event & not valid for the redemption of movie magics, Movie & Meal deal or gift vouchers*

EXHIBITION ON SCREEN: James McNeill Whistler,90'

In an era of great change and great beauty emerged the character of James McNeill Whistler. Considered by some to be one of the great innovators of 19th century art, he was a contemporary of the Impressionists, much admired by Van Gogh and Manet. Boldly experimental and famously witty, Whistler disrupted the strict conventions of Victorian society in pursuit of a new cult of beauty, creating “art for art’s sake” and earning himself a place in the history of great art. He found a parallel between painting and music, and entitled many of his paintings “arrangements”, “harmonies” and “nocturnes”, emphasizing the importance of tonal harmony in his work. His most famous painting, Arrangement in Grey and Black No. 1 (1871), commonly known as Whistler’s Mother, is a revered and often parodied portrait of motherhood. It is arguably one of the most famous paintings in history and this film will unveil the artist behind the art. Tate Britain is now holding the first major retrospective of Whistler in three decades. This blockbuster exhibition promises to reawaken the world to just how important Whistler is to art history, uniting world-famous masterpieces with rarely seen works. Exhibition on Screen will bring these stunning works and the incredible story behind them to cinemas around the world while the exhibition is still running, bringing this truly global artist to a global audience. This will be an unmissable chance to get to know this visually spectacular artist and the influence he has had on those who followed. Set in Český Krumlov, the hometown of Egon Schiele’s mother, Taboo. Egon Schiele offers a bold psychoanalytic reading of the artist’s deep connection to this Bohemian town—both as a physical place and a symbol of maternal longing, desire, and confinement. Through Schiele’s paintings, writings, and poetry, the film explores his troubled relationship with women, his obsession with time and death, and his raw, modern vision that is still unsettling today. Drawing parallels with Kafka and the decline of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Taboo.
